Mumbai receives highest rain over a 24-hour period after 2005 floods

The rainfall in the 24-hour period before 8.30 am Tuesday was the highest that Mumbai witnessed since the July 2005 floods, prompting the government to declare a public holiday on Tuesday. The death toll due to rain-related accidents in Maharashtra climbed to 27. Officials said 72 others were admitted to hospitals, where the condition of at least four was critical.
