Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has floated tenders to build an underground tunnel connecting Eastern Freeway to Coastal Road and Marine Drive. The two-plus-two lane tunnel, also called 'twin tunnel', will be the longest underground tunnel in Mumbai. Estimated to cost ₹6,500 crore, the tunnel is expected to reduce travel time between Eastern Freeway and Marine Drive to 10 minutes.
