Munnar’s Tamil tea workers struggle for identity and dignity

Even a century and four generations after they were brought as tea plantation workers, the Tamil community in Kerala’s Idukki district, especially the areas surrounding Munnar, has yet to be formally recognised as the residents of the state. From obtaining caste certificates to accessing various government benefits, they allege that Tamil people are treated as second-class citizens.
