Mushroom-shaped micropillars help lizards shed their tails: Study

Several species of lizard can shed their tails quickly to distract and escape their predators. Recent research carried out a detailed microscopic study of lizard's amputated tail and discovered it has tiny structures made up of mushroom-shaped micropillars with ultra-small pores on top that help lizards shed tails. These findings may help in solving adhesion challenges in robotics and prosthetics.
