After ex-Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi called Waqf Act an "evil plan" of the Centre to "grab Muslim lands", BJP MP Nishikant Dubey claimed Quraishi was a "Muslim commissioner" during his tenure. "Maximum number of Bangladeshi infiltrators were made voters in Jharkhand's Santhal Pargana during [Quraishi's] tenure," he said. "I'm sure [Supreme Court] will call it out," Quraishi had said.
