Nalanda Univ declared UNESCO World Heritage Site

UNESCO on Friday declared the Nalanda University in Bihar a World Heritage Site. The university houses the remains of a monastic institution dating from the 3rd century BC to the 13th century AD. Considered the oldest university in the Indian subcontinent, it imparted knowledge for about 800 years. Sites in Iran, China and Micronesia were also added to the list.
