NASA develops atomic clock for deep space travel
short by Gaurav Shroff / on Thursday, 23 March, 2017
NASA has developed a Deep Space Atomic Clock to provide astronauts with their position and velocity during space exploration missions. Most spacecraft are tracked using "two-way" methods by measuring the time taken by a ground-based 'ping' to return. However, atomic clocks enable "one-way" tracking, removing the need to send a signal back to Earth, thus providing autonomous real-time navigation.
