NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has detected carbon dioxide and hydrogen peroxide on Pluto's largest moon, Charon. Hydrogen peroxide forms when charged particles break down ice, releasing hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Presence of these chemicals hints that Charon's icy surface is altered by ultra-violet light and solar wind. Charon had previously shown signs of ice, ammonia, and organic compounds.
