NASA has gathered first full global map of helium in the solar atmosphere using the sounding rocket launched in 2009. Using the images of the solar corona scientists figured equatorial regions had almost no helium while areas at mid-latitudes had the most. They further said abundance at mid-latitudes overlaps with where Sun's magnetic field lines open out into Solar System.
