NASA has launched twin satellites to study the Earth's magnetic shield. The twin satellites will fly one behind the other, 10 seconds apart over the same location, and will take 3,000 measurements in one year to build a picture of how magnetic reconnection changes over time. NASA stated the mission named TRACERS will further our understanding of the Earth-Sun connection.
