NASA names HQ after its first black female engineer Mary Jackson

NASA has named its Washington DC headquarters after its first black female engineer, Mary W Jackson, who joined the agency in 1958. Jackson was a mathematician and an aerospace engineer for about two decades. She worked at the segregated West Area Computing Unit of NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton and retired from the agency in 1985.
