NASA's next space telescope, the Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO), which will search for habitable Earth-like planets, will be serviced in space only by robots. This is because the HWO is expected to operate around 1.5 million km away from Earth and NASA currently has no spacecraft capable of carrying astronauts there. HWO is expected to be launched in the 2040s.
