NASA tested first Saturn-I rocket on this day

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) tested its first Saturn-I space launch vehicle under the Mission Saturn-Apollo 1 program on October 27, 1961. It travelled a distance of 331.5 km within the mission duration of 15 minutes. Notably, it was USA's first space launcher meant to launch heavy vehicles weighing between 20,000 and 50,000 kg.
