NASA to launch rockets to conduct 'CT scan' of auroral electricity

NASA is preparing to launch two sounding rockets from Alaska into the Northern Lights to study hidden electric currents inside the glowing aurora. The rockets will use a technique similar to a CT scan to map auroral electric currents. They will release multiple sensors and send radio signals. Previous NASA missions have also studied auroras and upper atmospheric electricity.
