NASA to probe if large pit on Moon opens into an underground cave

NASA has selected a proposal led by Planetary Science Institute to determine whether Marius Hills Pit, a large opening on the Moon, leads into a vast underground cave. Researchers will use radar, seismic sensors, gravity measurements and cameras to search beneath the lunar surface. Such a cave could protect astronauts from radiation and reveal clues about the Moon’s volcanic history.
