A row has erupted after NCERT's new Class 9 Social Science textbook omitted Preamble and references to "secular" and "secularism" while introducing a chapter on 1975–77 Emergency, Hindustan Times reported. These references featured prominently in previous Class 9 textbook, it added. Future generations should understand dark deeds of the Emergency, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.
