The new Class 9 mathematics book by NCERT, released on Tuesday, makes several references to ancient India, including crediting the Rigveda for setting the stage for the modern number system. It credits mathematician Baudhayana for "laying the foundation of coordinate geometry." It adds that grids were first used systematically in the Sindhu-Sarasvati Civilisation on a massive urban scale.
