Neanderthal babies grew twice as fast as modern human babies: Study

A study published in Current Biology suggests Neanderthal babies were about the same size as Homo sapiens babies at birth but grew nearly twice as fast in the following months. Living across Europe and Asia, Neanderthals endured long periods of intense cold. Researchers said children may have grown faster to survive these conditions, as larger bodies retain heat more effectively.
