The parliament of Nepal on Wednesday elected Bidhya Devi Bhandari as the first female President of the country. Bhandari, who is the second President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, belongs to the Communist Party of Nepal Unified Marxist-Leninist. She received a total of 327 votes, defeating her opponent, Kul Bahadur Gurung, by 113 votes.
