Nepal cuts missing persons' death wait from 12 yrs to 45 days
Nepal's president issued an ordinance reducing the legal waiting period to declare missing disaster victims dead from 12 years to ~45 days. Over 5,000 people remain unaccounted for after catastrophic August 26 floods triggered by a mountain-glacier collapse on the China-Nepal border, which killed 1,400+. Families couldn't access compensation without death certificates.
