Nepal declares cow to be its national animal

Nepal's recently adopted secular constitution has announced cow to be the country's national animal. General Secretary of Nepali Congress, Krishna Prasad Sitaula was quoted saying, "[F]or the pro-Hindus, we have made cow our national animal. Now, the animal has constitutional protection and cow slaughter has also been banned." Cows are notably considered sacred among the Hindu society.
