New 'fairy lantern' species found in Thai national park

Scientists discovered a new leafless flowering plant, Thismia daemona, in Thong Pha Phum National Park, Thailand. Found at ~1,000m elevation, it lacks chlorophyll and feeds via fungi. Its black, demon-like flower inspired its name. The plant, first of its genus section found in Thailand, is provisionally assessed as Critically Endangered.
