New blind snake species discovered near China-Nepal border

A new species of blind snake, Indotyphlops gyirongensis, has been discovered in a forest near China's border with Nepal. The earthworm-like reptile was found on a roadside in Xizang and described in the journal ZooKeys. Scientists said it could also occur in neighbouring Nepal. Like other blind snakes, the species has greatly reduced eyes beneath scales covering its head.
