A new carnivorous pitcher plant species, Nepenthes megastoma, has been discovered on limestone cliffs in Palawan, Philippines. So far, it is only known from 3 locations, and scientists could access only 25 plants from 2 of these locations. Its jewel-like pitchers and slippery insect-trapping mechanism suggest extreme specialisation, leaving the species potentially already critically endangered.
