New contact lens made that can check glucose levels
short by Swarnim Bagre / on Thursday, 6 October, 2016
Researchers at the University of Houston have developed a new type of contact lens that could allow non-invasive testing of glucose levels in tears. The lens was made using multiple layers of gold nanowires stacked on top of a gold film. The device uses surface-enhanced Raman scattering technique which monitors light's interaction with a material to determine its molecular composition.
