New crocodile species found in Great Sphinx's bedrock

Paleontologists have discovered a new crocodilian species, Herugavialis cairensis, from fossils found in Egypt's Mokattam Formation — the same limestone that built the Great Sphinx. Named after Egyptian god Horus, it had razor-sharp teeth and a long snout for catching fish, and lived during the Eocene period, 34–56 million years ago.
