New depression therapy shifts focus from brain to immune system

Scientists at the University of Bristol identified a new way to treat depression by targeting the immune system instead of brain chemicals. Researchers found that an anti-inflammatory drug used for rheumatoid arthritis helped reduce symptoms in people with treatment-resistant depression. The study focused on interleukin-6, a protein that regulates immune response, playing a key role in depression.
