New disease that causes night blindness and peripheral vision loss discovered

Scientists have identified a previously unrecognised inherited retinal disease that can cause night blindness and progressive loss of peripheral vision while initially sparing central vision. Described in JAMA Ophthalmology journal, it's caused by a variant in EFEMP1 gene. The disease hasn't been formally named, however, researchers are calling it EFEMP1-associated late-onset retinal degeneration.
