New grafting material kills bone cancer, regenerates bone
short by Neeraja Nath / on Sunday, 5 July, 2026
An international team of researchers developed a new bone graft material by adding gallium oxide to a traditional Bioglass 45S5 base. It selectively kills residual bone cancer cells, blocks bacterial infection and regenerates missing bone tissue. Inside cancer cells, gallium acts like iron but cannot participate in redox reactions. This causes oxidative stress and leads the cells to self-destruct.
