New images of Mars show signs of relatively recent ice age
short by Swati Dubey / on Tuesday, 6 January, 2026
New images from ESA show evidence of a relatively recent ice age on Mars, extending beyond its poles. The images highlight Coloe Fossae, which appear to have formed when sections of ground collapsed in alternating pattern, likely influenced by subsurface ice. Swirling crater textures suggest slow glacial movement, indicating repeated freezing and thawing cycles reshaped Mars over extended periods.
