New immune cell network found to prevent food-triggered illness

Scientists at the Weizmann Institute have discovered that rare ROR-gamma-t cells initiate a multi-cell immune process that allows the body to tolerate food without inflammation. The study, preprinted in Nature, challenges the long-held belief that dendritic cells mediate oral tolerance. This breakthrough may lead to new treatments for food allergies, sensitivities, and celiac disease.
