The recently-appointed CEO of Samsonite, Ramesh Dungarmal Tainwala, was, interestingly, rejected for the post of management trainee with VIP Industries in 1981. Over two decades, Tainwala, a BITS-Pilani alumni, gradually made it big through commodity trading and manufacturing of plastic sheets. He gained important clients like Asian Paints, Kelvinator and Godrej.
