Fish hobbyist Farham Sangma has unknowingly discovered a new snakehead species, Channa nachi, in South Garo Hills. Named 'Farham's snakehead', it features a striking bicolor body and holds cultural significance. Its scientific name, Channa nachi, comes from the Garo language, where 'nachi' is a vernacular term for the fish, reflecting Meghalaya's rich indigenous heritage.
