New species of parasitic, blood-sucking wasp discovered in Amazon

Scientists have discovered a new wasp species, the Capitojoppa amazonica, in the Amazon. The parasitic creature, with a large almond-shaped head, attaches to its prey, sucks their blood, and lays eggs inside them. The female wasp uses her antennae to assess the host's suitability and deposits single egg by piercing the victim. In some cases, they feed without laying eggs.
