A recent study published in scientific journal 'Social Psychological and Personality Science' investigated how long it takes to get over an ex-partner. On average, it can take about 4.18 years for emotional attachment to an ex to be halfway dissolved, the study found. It further stated that for most people, the bond could completely fade after around 8 years.
