A major UK trial published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology found Roux-en-Y gastric bypass led to the most weight loss and highest quality of life among three surgeries for severe obesity. Sleeve gastrectomy was less effective but safer, while adjustable gastric banding showed the poorest results and is no longer recommended.
