New Zealand was first to grant women 'right to vote'

With the signing of the Electoral Bill 123 years ago on September 19, 1893, New Zealand became the first country in the world to grant national voting rights to women. The bill was the outcome of years of suffragette meetings across the country. Notably, India granted women the right to vote as soon as it became a Republic in 1950.
