NGT takes suo motu cognisance of proposed coal mine near UNESCO site

The National Green Tribunal has taken suo motu cognisance of a proposed coal mining project by Singareni Collieries near Telangana's UNESCO-recognised Ramappa Temple and Ramappa Lake in Mulugu district. The NGT noted potential violations of environmental laws, issued notices to multiple authorities, and transferred the case to its Southern Zonal Bench at Chennai.
