Under Section 18-A of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, the police are not required to conduct a preliminary inquiry to verify the authenticity of a complaint before registering the First Information Report. The accused person is also not entitled to anticipatory bail under the Act, explained Advocate Deepak Somani.
