The Centre has no plans to declare the cow as the national animal, Union MoS for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, SP Singh Baghel, said in a written reply to BJP MP Trivendra Singh Rawat's question in the Lok Sabha. He added that the government has been running the Rashtriya Gokul Mission since 2014 to promote, protect, and rear cows.
