Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir on Tuesday said in the Parliament that the government has no plans to impose a nationwide liquor ban so far. Ahir added that 2.83 crore litres of liquor was seized in 2014 under the Excise Act. Notably, 731 people died of consuming illicit liquor in 2012, 497 in 2013 and 1,699 in 2014.
