Nobel laureate and former UN chief Kofi Annan passes away

Former UN Secretary-General and Nobel Peace Prize winner Kofi Annan passed away on Saturday aged 80 at a hospital in Switzerland. The diplomat from Ghana had worked to combat HIV, especially in Africa, and had advocated the expansion of the UN Security Council. He also served as a UN special representative tasked with resolving the conflict in Syria.
