The Republic of North Macedonia has become the 30th member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). "We have waited for this day nearly 30 years," the country's Defence Minister Radmila Sekerinska said. North Macedonia's accession increases "security and stability" across the Western Balkans and is a sign of NATO's "open-door policy", German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said.
