After reports surfaced online claiming that ₹500 notes worth ₹88,032.5 crore are missing from Indian economy, the RBI said that the reports are "not correct". "These reports are based on erroneous interpretation of information collected under the RTI from the printing presses. It may be noted all banknotes supplied from printing presses to RBI are properly accounted for," it added.
