The Eyes of Darkness, a 1981 thriller by Dean Koontz, tells of a Chinese lab that creates a virus as part of its biological weapons programme. "They call the stuff 'Wuhan-400' because it was developed at labs outside of the city of Wuhan," the novel reads. Notably, Wuhan is the epicentre of coronavirus outbreak that has killed 1,868 in China.
