Nuclear-powered rockets could get astronauts to Mars in 5 months: US firm

US-based USNC-Tech has proposed a spacecraft design with nuclear-powered engines that would take five to nine months for a one-way trip to send astronauts to Mars. The company has presented its design to NASA. Chemical engines take at least three years for a round trip, whereas nuclear-powered rockets would "double the miles per gallon," NASA's Chief Engineer, Jeffrey Sheehy, said.
