Number of planets reduced from 9 to 8 ten years ago

Following a new definition of ‘Planet’ by the International Astronomical Union, Pluto was removed from the planet list of the solar system ten years ago on August 24, 2006. The decision brought down the total number of planets in the solar system to eight, consisting of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
