Nutritionist explains why one should not drink water right after meals

Nutritionist Karishma Shah said drinking water just after eating can dilute essential stomach acids and enzymes, slowing down digestion. She said that drinking water after meals can impair nutrient absorption, adding that some evidence suggests that water right after meals could spike insulin levels. One should especially avoid gulping large amounts of water, though small sips are fine, she said.
