A truck driver in Odisha was fined ₹86,500 last week, reportedly the highest under the amended Motor Vehicles Act, for violating traffic rules. He was penalised for allowing an unauthorised person to drive, driving without licence and overloading with an excess of 18 tonne among other violations. The driver paid ₹70,000 after negotiating with authorities for more than five hours.
