An official who was once rumoured to have been executed has been appointed North Korea's new top military general. The man, Ri Yong Gil, previously served as the country's defence minister and had also served as the army chief of staff before being replaced in 2016. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has sought preparations for the possibility of war.
